HCMC opts for green growth as sustainable development goal

(VOVWORLD) -HCMC has opted for green growth as its future development strategy, considering it a top priority for achieving economic prosperity, environmental sustainability, and social equality toward a green, carbon-neutral economy and contributing to the goal of limiting global temperature rise.

Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Phan Van Mai told Wednesday’s conference on investment in HCM City’s green growth that Vietnam’s largest economic hub intends to cut gas emissions by 10% by 2030 to create a safe living and working environment for people and businesses.

Ho Chi Minh City wants to promote innovation and multi-national cooperation and is calling for public investment to shift to a greener and more sustainable economy, Mai said.

Addressing the conference, jointly held by the municipal People's Committee and the World Bank, Country Director for Vietnam Carolyn Turk pledged that the World Bank will support the city in implementing its emission reduction strategy and finding financial resources.     

The municipal People's Committee unveiled 28 projects that call for investment in green growth.
