(VOVWORLD) -General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam and President of Vietnam To Lam held high-level talks with General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and President of China Xi Jinping in the Great Hall of the People, Beijing, after a grand welcoming ceremony, on Monday.

General Secretary and President Xi emphasized that the first state visit to China, which is also the first foreign visit of To Lam as head of the Party and State of Vietnam, has extremely important significance, demonstrating the high regard and top priority of the two Parties and two countries for China-Vietnam relations. He said he believes that it’s high time for the two countries to lift bilateral relations to new heights.
Xi said China takes Vietnam as a priority in its foreign policy, and supports Vietnam in upholding the leadership of the CPV and further advancing the cause of socialist building.

On behalf of the Party, State and people of Vietnam, General Secretary and President Lam said Vietnam always values and gives top priority to friendly neighborly relations, comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership, and a Vietnam-China community with a shared future that carries strategic significance.
He affirmed the desire to join General Secretary, President Xi and other senior Chinese leaders in inheriting and promoting the long-standing tradition of friendship between the two Parties and countries, and orienting Vietnam-China relations to enter a new phase of more stable and long-term sustainable development.

The two leaders discussed in depth major directions to increase trust, consolidate friendship, improve the effectiveness of practical cooperation in all fields, and maintain peace and stability at sea to develop the Vietnam-China relationship healthily, stably and sustainably.
The two General Secretaries and Presidents reached a high consensus on strengthening political trust and maintaining regular exchanges and contacts between senior leaders of the two Parties and two countries.
They emphasized the importance of boosting practical areas of cooperation. Both agreed to continue bolster security, defense, economics, trade and investment cooperation, including expanding synergy between "two corridors, one belt" strategy and the “belt and road” initiative, strengthen railway and road infrastructure connections, boost supply chain cooperation, economic cooperation between border provinces, and increase exchanges on state-owned enterprise reform.
Emphasizing that the two countries are aiming to celebrate the 75th anniversary of diplomatic ties next year, the two General Secretaries and Presidents agreed to determine 2025 as the "Year of Vietnam-China Humanistic Exchange".
The two sides discussed sincerely and frankly maritime issues, agreed to well implement the high-level common perceptions and make efforts to control and resolve disagreements better. General Secretary and President Lam proposed that the two sides respect each other's legitimate interests, resolve disagreements by peaceful means, and comply with the United Nations Charter and international law, including the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS 1982).
At the end of the talks, To Lam and Xi Jinping witnessed ministries, sectors and localities of the two countries signing cooperation documents in party school, broadcasting, press and media operations, health care, infrastructure, economics and trade, industry, and banking, among others.
Afterwards General Secretary and President Xi invited and together with General Secretary and President Lam attended a tea party, a special formality held in recent years during high-level visits between the top leaders of the two Parties and two countries.
