The craft of weaving hammocks has existed and developed on Cu Lao Cham island for many centuries. The profession of making bamboo and coconut houses in Cam Thanh commune reflects the history of formation and development of communes and craft villages in ancient Hoi An urban trading port.
Truong Thi Ngoc Cam, Director of the Center for Culture-Sports & Radio-Television of Hoi An city, said that efforts have been made to best preserve and promote the values of traditional crafts.
“Currently, we determine that the key task is to foster, train and draw artisans and traditional handicraft workers. We will attract young people to participate in practicing and creating folk art forms. By doing so, it is possible to preserve the inherent values of the folk system and restore the folk arts that are gradually disappearing and lost as the current generations of artisans are growing old,” according to Cam.
