(VOVworld) - Hong Kong's Chief Executive said on Monday that pro-democracy protests are illegal and pointless after the police used pepper spray and batons on students trying to storm offices in some of the worst violence since the rallies began.

Speaking to the press, Chief Executive Leung Chun Ying called on protestors to disperse and said that further police action is imminent. He called on protestors not to fight government forces and warned them not to return after clashes closed government offices. Leung Chun Ying’s forceful comments were released after thousands of Hong Kong pro-democracy activists forced the temporary closure of government offices on Monday. 40 protestors were arrested, 11 policemen were injured, and 37 people were hospitalized.
