(VOVWORLD) - The US House of Representatives passed a bill on Monday to boost the second round of federal COVID relief payments to 2,000 USD per person, up from the 600 USD per person set in the new relief package.
The vote, which passed 275 to 134, came after President Donald Trump asked Congress to increase the amount of the checks.
After months of deadlock over the size and scope of the relief package, Democrat and Republican lawmakers finally agreed on a 900-billion-USD relief plan.
Roy Blunt of Missouri, chairman of the Senate Republican Policy Committee, said that the bill will have a hard time passing the Senate.
