(VOVWORLD) - The "Humanitarian Month 2024" will take place in May with many activities to help vulnerable groups in the community.

The Vietnam Red Cross told a press conference on Wednesday in Hanoi that highlight of the month will the the “Humanitarian journey: sharing and receiving love” to be held in Thai Nguyen, Son La, and Dien Bien province on April 20-22.
After the launch ceremony in Dien Bien province, incense will be offered to pay tribute to heroic martyrs at revolutionary historical sites. Other activities include voluntary blood donation, providing free medical consultation, examination, and drug for more than 7,000 people in difficult circumstances, helping 70 poor households in Dien Bien province to have stable livelihood, and giving shopping vouchers to 700 poor people.
Bui Thi Hoa, President of the Vietnam Red Cross Society, said that the Society strives to raise 16 million USD to carry out major activities during the Humanitarian Month. On February 25, it will launch a campaign on the V-Race app to rally about 70,000 people to jog and run to raise about 290,000 USD.
Ms. Hoa said: “The "Million Steps of Kindness" campaign aims to draw the public to community sport activities and encourage them to adopt a positive life style and contribute to humanitarian activities.”
At last year’s Humanitarian Month, the Vietnam Red Cross Society raised over 33 million USD, more than twice the expected amount, to help 1.3 million poor people.
