Preserved for thousands of years, the procession has demonstrated the community’s solidarity and become an indispensable ritual of the death anniversary of the Hung Kings, Vietnam’s legendary founders.
Offerings include incense, flowers, glutinous sticky rice cakes, and local specialties.
“Since UNESCO recognized the worship of the Hung Kings as an intangible culture heritage of humanity in 2012, the number of foreign visitors, especially overseas Vietnamese, to the Hung Kings Temple Festival has rapidly increased. Other factors are improved infrastructure and transportation. Also, Phu Tho authorities have gotten better at advertising and promoting the Temple and the worship of the Hung Kings,” said Nguyen Duy Anh, Head of the Hung Kings Temple Relic Site Management Board.
The Hung Kings Temple Festival 2018 will be observed over five days, starting last Saturday.
