IAEA urges dialogue amid escalating tensions with Iran
(VOVWORLD) - IAEA Director General Yukiya Amano said Monday he is worried about increasing tensions over Iran after Tehran threatened to abandon some of the restrictions on its nuclear activities imposed by the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) that it signed with the P5+1 group in 2015.

In his regular report to the International Atomic Energy Agency's board of governors, Amano said it is essential that Iran fully implement its nuclear-related commitments under the plan of action, and urged world powers to continue dialogue with Iran to prevent it from building nuclear weapons.
The assessment comes at a time of sharply increased US-Iranian confrontation after President Donald Trump decided in 2018 to withdraw from the JCPOA and reimpose sanctions on Iran and 8 countries and territories that import oil from Iran.
