Delegates said that the agreement presented many opportunities for Vietnamese products to enter Japan’s market. Under the agreement, Vietnamese agricultural, fisheries,, garment, and textile products will benefit most from Japan’s tariff incentives. Japan’s import tariffs on Vietnamese products will be reduced from 6.1% in 2015 to 3.7% in 2018 on average.  Tran Dinh Thien, Director of the Vietnam Economic Research Institute, said: “Businesses should adjust their vision and way of thinking to improve product quality in order to integrate successfully. We should focus on products typical of Vietnam when joining the global commodity chain. High-tech products should also be developed.”

Delegates also agreed that businesses should develop long-term market access strategies and gather more information about the Japanese market in order to make the most of the Economic Partnership Agreement.
