Speaking in New York as Vietnam concludes its working term as a non-permanent member of the UNSC, the Indian diplomat said that in the past two years, Vietnam has prioritised a number of important issues, including the promotion of the resolution on protection of civilian infrastructure in armed conflicts.
Vietnam issued a presidential statement regarding bomb and mine issues, which is an important matter, especially when terrorists are targeting peacekeeping forces, he underlined.
Ambassador T.S Tirumurti noted that India engaged in the open discussion hosted by Vietnam on the partnership between the UN and regional organisations, during which India found that Vietnam, as an ASEAN member, brought important views to the UNSC, especially on the Myanmar issue.
India supports all initiatives given by Vietnam at the UNSC, he stated. Regarding challenges facing the UNSC in next year, the Indian diplomat said that the council will have a lot to do, especially as COVID-19 still lingers, along with increased conflicts in the world and expanding terrorism.
