Ayurveda Day, the eighth edition, has been celebrated annually since 2016 and is dedicated to Dhanwantari Jayanti, who is known as the Physician of the Gods and the divine propagator of Ayurveda.
India’s Ambassador Sandeep Arya said Ayurvedic philosophy is a system of medicine and healing that focuses on the mind and body which helps a person to live in harmony with nature.
According to the diplomat, Indians believe that traditional medicine practices of Ayurveda are extremely effective and they maintain humans good health in a fulsome manner.
“This approach is unlike modern medicine in which, if you have an illness, you take medicine, and you feel better. But practitioners feel that Ayurvedic medicine promotes healthy solutions on a long-term basis without any side effects and overall generates better health. The belief also has a component of bringing your heart and mind together with your physical health,” said the Ambassador.
Ayurveda maintains that disease occurs due to an imbalance or stress in a person’s consciousness. Ayurveda encourages certain lifestyle interventions and natural therapies to regain a balance between the body, mind, spirit, and the environment.
This year, India plans to celebrate Ayurveda Day in about 100 countries.
