(VOVworld) - Indonesian Vice President Jusuf Kalla urged ASEAN member’s to step up security collaboration to prevent rampant piracy in the Strait of Malacca, one of the world’s busiest maritime routes.

The Vice President’s appeal came after the hijacking of a Singaporean ship in the strait last week.

 He hailed joint patrols as an effective way to foil the pirates and recommended further collaboration to prevent the movement of hijackers from one country to another.
