Indonesia holds presidential election
(VOVworld) – More than 190 million Indonesians cast ballots Wednesday in the third Indonesian presidential election held. The two presidential candidates are 53-year-old Jakartar governor Joko Widodo and 63-year-old Prabowo Subianto, former Lieutenant General of the Indonesian Armed Forces. Pre-election surveys indicated equal support for both candidates. Mr Widodo, who represents the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P), chose Jusuf Kalla, a former vice-president, as his running mate. Prabowo, who leads the Greater Indonesia Movement Party (Gerindra), selected former finance Minister Hatta Radjasa. The election’s result will be announced by the Indonesian General Elections Commission on July 21. Any complaint regarding the election results will be filed to the Constitutional Court from July 23 to July 25. The new president will be inaugurated on 20 October and will have to appoint a cabinet within two weeks.
