International community acts to implement Paris Accord on climate change
(VOVWORLD) - Delegates from nearly 200 nations gathered in Katowice, Poland, on Sunday for the 24th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP24).
Attendees hope to agree on a robust and fair “Paris rulebook”, a set of implementation guidelines to consolidate the Paris Accord and a roadmap to resolving outstanding issues.
In Paris three years ago, countries committed to keeping the global temperature rise well below two degrees Celsius and below 1.5 DC if at all possible. Rich countries pledged to give 100 billion USD a year until 2020 to aid developing countries. So far, they have given 10 billion USD of the 100 billion USD promised.
