International community helps Indonesia recover from earthquake
(VOVWORLD) - South Korea’s Foreign Ministry on Sunday committed 1 million USD to help victims and reconstruction work in Indonesia after it was hit by a strong earthquake and tsunami.
In a letter to Indonesian President Joko Widodo, South Korean President Moon Jae-in extended his condolences to the Indonesian people and said he hopes the search and rescue work will be successful.
The same day, Chinese President Xi Jinping sent a letter of condolence to President Widodo in which he said China is ready to provide aid to Indonesia. The Australian government also vowed to help Indonesia recover from the disaster.
The Indonesian National Board for Disaster Management said the death toll has risen to more than 830.
