International media: Vietnam bids farewell to late general secretary

(VOVWORLD) -Reuters reported a two-day state funeral service to bid farewell to General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, attended by leaders of countries, diplomatic corps, representatives of international organizations and friends.

Vietnam Communist Party chief’s funeral draws thousands of mourners, including world leaders, AP said. The Telegraph and AFP said that thousands of people, many of whom who had traveled from far-flung provinces, queued up in Hanoi late into Thursday to light incense and pay their respects to General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong at the National Funeral House and his home village in Dong Anh district.

According to Bloomberg, Trong was viewed as the nation's most powerful leader, whose legacy includes overseeing Vietnam's emergence as a global electronics supplier.

According to Germany’s DPA, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong's three terms were not only widely known for his anti-corruption campaign, but also made Vietnam one of the fastest growing economies in Asia.

Major Chinese media outlets quoted China's top political advisor Wang Huning, as General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee Xi Jinping's Special Representative who came to Vietnam to attend the funeral, emphasizing that General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong was a steadfast Marxist, a great leader of the Communist Party of Vietnam and the Vietnamese people, and a great friend of the Chinese people. Mr. Trong’s passing is a great loss for the cause of building socialism in Vietnam and for peace and progress of humanity, he said.

In the article "General Secretary Thongloun lays a wreath in memory of comrade Nguyen Phu Trong", Lao News Agency said General Secretary Trong made great, valuable and important contributions to cultivating the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between the two Parties, States and people of Laos and Vietnam.

Cuban News Agency reported on the Vietnam trip by Cuban National Assembly President Esteban Lazo Hernandez to attend the funeral. The article highlighted the great contributions by General Secretary Trong to the development of the country and people of Vietnam, as well as to the increasingly strong "solidarity and brotherly relationship" between the people, Communist parties and governments of the two countries.

Russia's Sputnik published articles and photos of the Russian delegation led by Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Petr Olegovich Tolstoy to pay tribute to the Vietnamese Party leader, saying "General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong laid a solid foundation for Russia-Vietnam relations."
