The same day, UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi appealed to the UN Security Council to support a humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza to stop the “spiral of death” in the Middle East.

In a speech at a meeting of the Nordic Council in Oslo, Norway, NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg protested the escalation of the conflict between Hamas and Israel. NATO said the Israeli response must respect international law.  

During a visit Tuesday to the Rafah crossing, Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly called for international action to end the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and reiterated Cairo’s stance  against blanket punishment of the Palestinian people.

King Abdullah II of Jordan underlined the importance of a ceasefire and an immediate humanitarian truce in the Gaza Strip during a phone call with US President Joe Biden. He underlined the need to guarantee the uninterrupted delivery of humanitarian aid to the Palestinian enclave, called for stronger efforts to stop the conflict, and affirmed that a two-state solution is the only solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.

During a phone call with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak insisted on the importance of taking all possible measures to minimize casualties and protect civilians.

The British Prime Minister's office said that the two leaders also discussed the situation in the West Bank and the long-term goal of a two-state solution. Sunak also talked by phone with the Palestinian Authority’s President Mahmoud Abbas about the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

The UK has pledged to support diplomatic actions to protect Palestinian civilians, prevent an escalation of the violence, and ensure a peaceful and lasting solution to this crisis. Japanese Foreign Minister Yoko Kamikawa said she will visit Israel and Jordan this weekend. Japan has pledged to provide 10 million USD in emergency aid to the Gaza Strip, which is facing a serious humanitarian crisis.
