Mr. Phan Anh Son, Vice President and Secretary General of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations and Head of the Organizing Committee of the Assembly said people-to-people diplomacy and international solidarity play an important role in Vietnam’s construction and defense.
Vietnam appreciates the solidarity and support of the World Peace Council and international friends in its quest for national liberation and reunification and national construction.
"This is an opportunity for Vietnam to show that it is a loyal friend, a reliable partner, and a responsible member of the international community and the world peace movement. Organizing this Assembly created an opportunity for Vietnam, the World Peace Council, and international peace organizations to continue to cultivate and build relationships," said Mr. Son.
This is the first time Vietnam has hosted the World Peace Council General Assembly in the 72 years since the Council was established in 1950.
On this occasion, President Nguyen Xuan Phuc awarded the Friendship Medal to a number of collectives and individuals.
