Khamenei stated yesterday in a speech, broadcast by the state television, to mark the 23rd anniversary of the death of Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, the founder of the Islamic Republic. Khamenei said the US and the West “are deceitfully using the term nuclear weapons” to divert public attention from the problems occurring in the US and Europe, adding that their allegation that Iran is developing atomic bombs is false. The Iranian leader warned that any attacks by Israel will trigger Iran’s “thunderous blow” while asserting that sanctions could not hinder Iran but even deepen its hatred toward the West.
