Iran to enrich uranium to 20% even after nuclear deal

(VOVWORLD) - Iran will continue to enrich uranium to 20% purity even after a 2015 nuclear deal with world powers is revived and sanctions on it are lifted, Mohammad Eslami, head of Iran's Atomic Energy Organization, said on Friday.

Iran is now enriching to various levels, 5%, 20%, and the highest being around 60%.

The Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) is the nuclear pact that Iran signed with the UK, France, the US, Russia, China, and Germany in 2015.

The deal restricts the purity to which Iran can enrich uranium to 3.67%, far below the 20% Iran reached before the deal and the roughly 90% that is weapons-grade.

Negotiations over a renewed Iran nuclear deal have so far not progressed remarkably.
