(VOVworld) – On Saturday Iranian President Hassan Rouhani called for regional connectivity and cooperation to boost economic growth and stability in the south Asian region. During a two-day state visit to Pakistan that concluded the same day, Rouhani met with Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and held talks on matters of mutual interest including stronger connectivity between the two countries and a shared role to ensure stability in the region.

Rouhani told reporters that one of Iran’s main goals has been to have better economic interaction with the rest of the world, especially with its friendly countries in the region. Iran wants to have a corridor between Gwadar and Chahbahar, so that these ports will be connected to each other via railway and also roads and shipping lines.

Earlier Iran and Pakistan agreed to open two additional border crossings to enhance trade.

The two leaders witnessed the signing of 6 agreements related to trade and economy, including a "5-ear Strategic Trade Cooperation Plan", to tackle any possibly threats to bilateral trade. National banks of these 2 countries committed to enhancing cooperation.
