(VOVworld) – Ongoing nuclear negotiations in Vienna between Iran and the P5+1 group have made modest gains towards a comprehensive deal to end the decade-long deadlock over Tehran’s controversial nuclear program. The P5+1 group comprises Britain, Russia, the US, France, China, and Germany.
Concluding a second working day on Wednesday, the two sides moved closer to a framework agreement on how to conduct further talks in the coming months. A spokeswoman for the US State Department, Marie Harf said that negotiators discussed both the form and the content of the next rounds of talks in a constructive and efficient manner.
Earlier, on the first day of the negotiations on Tuesday, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said the talks were going in the right direction. Meanwhile, other Iranian leaders were cautious about the prospects of reaching an agreement that will satisfy hardliners on both sides - Israel and Sunni Muslims throughout the Gulf region.
