Iraqi people react to Prime Minister’s decision
(VOVworld) – Political differences have tensed after Iraq’s Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki vowed to seek a third term in office. The statement was made amidst criticism from Iraqi opposition parties and international politicians that Mr. Maliki’s ruling policies have deepened the divisions between 3 Iraqi major communities of Shiite, Sunni and Kurk. Some people showed their support to Maliki’s decision. Meanwhile, others said if Prime Minister Maliki continues to be in office, it will worsen the political instability in Iraq. Many people say that former Iraqi parliament speaker Osama al-Nujaifi would not nominate himself for another term to make it easier to establish a new government adding that Prime Minister Maliki should do the same. According to analysts, Mr. Maliki’s power maintenance will hinder the process to set up a new government and the political deadlock will threaten Iraq’s territorial integrity.
