(VOVworld) – Israeli warplanes on Thursday carried out raids on 2 targets in the north of the Gaza strip in retaliation for cross-border fire from a Palestinian armed group in the past 2 days.

Israeli army spokesperson Peter Lerner described the attacks on Israeli territory and civilians as violations of Israel’s sovereignty. So Israelis have the right to retaliate against those suspected of carrying out the raids.

Earlier this month, clashes erupted between the Israelis and members of the Islamist movement, Hamas, who control the Gaza strip, causing 5 deaths and 5 more injuries. Frequent conflicts continue as Middle East peace talks face deadlock. Palestinian negotiators on Thursday resigned over Israel’s continued expansion of its settlement area.
