Israeli military announces end to Gaza truce
(VOVworld)-About two hours after the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas went into effect, rockets had been fired from Gaza to the border cities of Israel. At least 40 people were killed and 100 other wounded as Israeli tanks fired shells into eastern Rafah. It is unclear which side has violated the ceasefire first; however Israel military accused Hamas of attacking Israel soldiers deploying near the Rafah border in Gaza, also saying that Hamas had kidnapped one of its soldiers.

The United Nations called on all sides to recommit to the 72-hour long cease fire in the Gaza. On the same day, UN General Secretary Ban Ki Moon released a statement strongly condemning the act of all sides that broke the ceasefire agreement. Ban noted that the attack against Israeli soldiers is violated the ceasefire and said that such moves called into question the credibility of Hamas' assurances to the United Nations. On the same day, US President Barack Obama also condemned the attack of Hamas gunmen killing two IsraeIi soldiers and one taken captive after the cease-fire came into effect.
