(VOV world) - The Israeli military said Monday it has discovered and destroyed a tunnel running from the Gaza Strip into Israeli territory, the first such discovery since 2014.

Lt. Col. Peter Lerner, a spokesman for the Israeli military, said the tunnel extended hundreds of meters into Israeli territory and did not have an exit leading to the surface.

The tunnel, detected 10 days ago, is paved and equipped with electricity and a ventilation system.  A Hamas website quoted its senior leader as saying that the tunnel was used in fights in 2014.
