Japan bids farewell to Abe Shinzo

(VOVWORLD) - With prayers, flowers, and flags draped in black ribbons, Japan on Tuesday said farewell to former Prime Minister Abe Shinzo. Crowds packed pavements lined with heavy police presence as the hearse carrying Abe, who died at age 67, departed from a central Tokyo temple on a procession through the city.

The Japanese Embassies in many countries including the US, France, and Vietnam, saw leaders and the locals pay tribute and share condolences with the Japanese government and people.
Japanese Foreign Minister Hayashi Yoshimasa said Japan has received 1,700 messages of condolence from 259 countries, territories and organizations.

On Monday, more than 2,500 people including Prime Minister Kishida Fumio, Vice President of the LDP Party Aso Taro, former PM Yoshihide Suga, parliamentarians, and representatives of countries paid tribute at Zojoji temple.
The Japanese government hung flags at half-mast at the offices and the headquarters of the LDP Party in memory of the former Prime Minister.
