Japan, China hold government meeting

(VOvworld) - Japan and China on Sunday held their first major governmental meeting since their leaders held talks last month. The forum in Beijing, which focuses on ways to save energy and overcome environmental problems and involves a total of 500 government and company officials, comes as tensions somewhat ease between Asia’s two biggest economies, particularly in nonpolitical fields. The meeting was attended by senior government officials from the two countries, including Yosuke Takagi, senior vice minister of Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, and Xie Zhenhua, vice chairman of China’s National Development and Reform Commission, who serves as the country’s chief climate negotiator.

Prime Minister Shinzo Abe’s first meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping on Nov. 10 on the margins of a regional economic summit provided impetus for Tokyo and Beijing to resume the forum, which had been held every year since 2006.
