Japan, China to resume negotiations on maritime security
(VOVWORLD) - Japan and China have agreed to hold bilateral maritime security negotiations at an appropriate time after the COVID-19 epidemic eases, Japan’s Foreign Ministry said.
The agreement came after an online meeting, in which both sides confirmed the importance of maintaining communication about the East China Sea situation.
The agreement was reached amid China’s repeatedly sending coastguard ships to areas near the Senkaku Islands in Japanese or Diaoyu in Chinese. The islands are currently controlled by Japan and claimed sovereignty by China.
