Japan, India to step up security, economic cooperation

(VOVworld)- Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi agreed Monday to step up their security cooperation and aim to double Japan’s investment in India in the next five years. In a joint statement issued after their talks in Tokyo, the two leaders agreed to seek ways to strengthen security consultations up from the Deputy Foreign and Defense Ministerial levels. Japan and India agreed also to continue joint and Japan-U.S.-India military exercises and to accelerate talks on the purchase by New Delhi of US-2 amphibian aircraft. As part of their “Investment Promotion Partnership,” the two sides set a target of doubling Japan’s foreign direct investment in India.
