Japan opposes any actions that raise tensions in the East Sea
(VOVWORLD) - Japan applauded US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo's statement on Monday announcing the US’s formal rejection of most of China's maritime claims in the East Sea, known internationally as the South China Sea, and signaling a US commitment to peace and stability in the region.

Japan’s Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga at a press conference on Tuesday expressed concern over China's actions in the area. He said Japan opposes any actions that raise tensions in the East Sea and added that Japan has consistently advocated the rule of law and the use of peaceful means in place of force and coercion.
The same day, Japan and the EU held an online conference to discuss regional issues such as North Korea and the East and South China Sea.
