Japan PM begins official visit to India

(VOVWORLD) - Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida arrived in India Monday for a two-day visit, an opportunity for the two leading Asian economies to review their bilateral ties.

During his talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the two discussed multiple issues of mutual interest.
Arindam Bagchi, a spokesperson for the Indian Ministry of External Affairs, said at a regular press briefing last Thursday that Japan is a “very important partner.”
“We have annual summits with them and this is part of that. They are also partners in plurilateral and multilateral constructs so we look forward to a rich discussion. We look forward to the exchange of views,” Bagchi said.
In 2014, ties between India and Japan were elevated to a Special Strategic and Global Partnership. The two countries have conducted regular yearly summits since 2006. New Delhi and Tokyo are also a part of the Quadrilateral Strategic Dialogue (QUAD), with Australia and the US.
