Japan praises Vietnam in handling the East Sea issue

Mr. Khoa informed his guest about the East Sea situation and appreciated the Japanese government for supporting Vietnam and opposing China’s illegal placement of oil rig Haiyang 981 in Vietnam’s exclusive economic zone and continental shelf. Mr. Akinori spoke highly of Vietnam’s efforts to resolve tensions by peaceful measures based on international law. He said Japan wanted to cooperate with ASEAN member countries in maintaining regional marine and air security, peace, and freedom of navigation. He said Japan will support Vietnam in the training of the marine police force.
