(VOVworld) – Japan has restarted its first nuclear reactor under new safety rules following the 2011 Fukushima disaster.

The plant is expected to be producing energy by the end of the week

Kyushu Electric Power restarted the number one reactor at its Sendai plant on Tuesday morning. The plant is expected to reach maximum power on Tuesday night and to begin generating electricity on Friday. The number two reactor at the Sendai plant could be restarted in October.
