Japan, US, Europe agree to cooperate over Afghanistan situation
(VOVWORLD) - Foreign Ministers from Japan, the US, Europe, and elsewhere agreed on Wednesday to work together to deal with the situation in Afghanistan as they seek to ensure the safe departure for those fleeing the Taliban-controlled country.

According to the Japanese government, at an online meeting of 22 Foreign Ministers, Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi promised 65 million USD of fresh aid through international organizations to assist locals with shelters, food, water, and other needs.
From Rome, Italian Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio voiced his concerns over the way the new government was formed in Afghanistan following the Taliban takeover. He insisted on respecting rights without any concession that the Afghan people have been enjoying over the past 20 years.
The same day, in a phone conversation, Russian President Vladimir Putin and President of the European Council Charles Michel showed their will for stabilizing the situation in Afghanistan and defying threats of terrorism, extremism, and drug trafficking.
