He said Vietnam, lying in the downstream of the Mekong river, has actively involved in many cooperative mechanisms in the Mekong Sub-region, including the Mekong-Japan cooperation.
Vietnam has participated in the “A Decade Toward the Green Mekong” Initiative and collaborated ASEAN-Japan diplomatic relations in 2018. Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc will attend the 10th Mekong-Japan Summit to be held in Tokyo next Tuesday.
The Mekong Sub-region consists of Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, and Myanmar. It is expected to become the production and consumption hub of ASEAN and an important link of the global value chain.
