(VOVworld) – Russia and the US, co-chairs of the International Syria Support Group urged a resumption of negotiations based on the UN special envoy for Syria’s April 27 initiative in a joint statement released on Monday.

The two hope a political settlement can be reached through negotiations in Geneva between the Syrian government and the Syrian opposition under the auspices of the UN and with assistance from the International Syria Support Group. The joint statement demands that all parties stop attacking medical facilities and minimize aviation operations over densely populated areas. The United States will step up its effort to block regional support for terrorist organizations. Russia and the US promised to share information on terrorists and their occupied areas, and seek new way to combat terrorism. The statement said both countries will continue to provide humanitarian aid and asked the UN to expand its aid.
