(VOVWORLD) - A conference took place in Kien Giang province on Friday to promote tourism between Phu Quoc Island and India.
Addressing the event, Bui Quoc Thai, Director of the provincial Department of Tourism, said that tourism is not only an important economic sector, but also contributes to promoting cooperation, cultural exchange, international integration, and friendship building between localities and countries around the world.
In recent years, Kien Giang's tourism industry has continuously expanded links and cooperation with provinces and cities at home and abroad, including India.
Statistics show that before the COVID-19 pandemic the number of Indian visitors to Kien Giang saw a positive growth. In March 2019, an Indian billionaire family chose Phu Quoc as the venue for a solemn wedding ceremony for their children, creating a great media image inside and outside Vietnam.
Pranay Verma, Indian Ambassador to Vietnam, spoke highly of the event and pledged to act as a bridge to further develop tourism between Phu Quoc and India.
