(VOVWORLD) -  DPRK Chairman Kim Jong Un and US President Donald Trump decided to continue productive talks to resolve problems discussed at their Hanoi summit, in order to bring about the denuclearization of the Korean peninsula and groundbreaking progress in the DPRK-US relationship, state media KCNA said on Friday.

The news agency noted that the two leaders saw that efforts and proactive measures taken by both sides to ease tension, propel peace and bring about complete denuclearization on the Korean peninsula has been gravely meaningful in encouraging trust between them and fundamentally changing the distrust and inimical relationship that had continued between the two countries for decades. The two leaders said their second meeting in Hanoi has been an important chance to build trust and lift the relationship between their two countries to the next level, KCNA stated.

KCNA’s statement came after the second DPRK-US summit in Hanoi on Wednesday and Thursday ended without an agreement.

White House press secretary Sarah Sanders said on Thursday that President Trump told the leaders of South Korea and Japan that the United States would continue to work with them and talk to the DPRK. Mr. Trump spoke to South Korean President Moon Jae-in and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe from Air Force One, Sanders told reporters aboard the flight, as he flew home after the summit in Vietnam.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres praised the DPRK-US summit as "courageous diplomacy" and expressed hope that talks will continue.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said Russia welcomes President Trump’s and Chairman Kim’s intention to pursue bilateral talks on the Korean Peninsula issue.

China said it hopes the US and the DPRK will continue talks on the nuclear issue which Beijing believes will not be resolved overnight.
