Laos dam collapse: Sanamxay declared emergency disaster zone
(VOVWORLD) - The Lao government has announced that Sanamxay district in Attapeu province is an emergency disaster zone after the collapse of the Sepian Senamnoi hydropower dam, Lao news agency KPL reported on Tuesday.

Pasong Vongkhamcha, Head of Lao Social Protection Department and Head of the Secretariat of the National Disaster Protection and Supervision Committee, said the committee is providing food, medicine, clothing, and accommodation to the victims and coordinating with the police and local agencies to move people to safety by airplane and boats.
On Tuesday, the Korean SK Engineering and Construction company, one of the companies involved in the construction of the dam, said a crisis management team has been set up to respond to the incident. SK E&C’s Chairman Ahn Jae-hyun and other leaders of the company left South Korea for Laos to assess the damage and support the rescue operation.
