The attack in Benghazi came amid protests over a video made in the United States that Muslims saw as blaspheming Prophet Muhammad. It resulted in the deaths of the US ambassador to Libya and three other Americans. According to Libyan authorities the attack was definitely planned by foreigners, by people who entered the country a few months ago and have been planning criminal acts since their arrival. Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula released a statement the attack was revenge for the killing of the terror network’s deputy leader Sheikh Abu Yahya al-Libi in a drone strike in June.
