GNC spokesman Omar Humeidan told reporters that 70 GNC members and 16 ministers had put forward a report criticising al-Hassi’s poor economic administration, saying that they would resign if he was not sacked.
Al-Hassi’s Deputy Prime Minister, Khalifa Ghwail, has reportedly taken over as interim leader.
Sources said that al-Hassi was discharged because of his failure in gaining international recognition for his government and in reaching an agreement on forming a national-unity government with the Tobruk-based government.
A referendum on Libya’s new constitution is expected to be held after general elections for a national-unity government.
