At a meeting in Brussels on Tuesday, Federica Mongherini, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, underscored the urgent need for a peaceful resolution of the current political crisis and reiterated the Quartet’s rejection of violence in Libya. She said the Quartet strongly condemns the attack on the Brak al-Shati air base last week which killed 140 people. The Quartet called on all parties to refrain from further violence and any act that may undermine ongoing efforts to find a negotiated solution to the conflict. It encouraged all Libyan parties to engage in constructive talks, which has been the principal aim of the Quartet, she said.
