China's deputy permanent representative to the UN, Dai Bing, said that about one-fifth of humanity around the globe celebrates this festival in various ways, adding that the adoption of this resolution will strongly enhance mutual exchange and consultation between civilizations worldwide, and demonstrate the acceptance of pluralistic cultural values, as recognized by the UN.
The UN identifies globally observed holidays as floating holidays and refrains from scheduling meetings on such occasions. The UN Secretary-General extends wishes to people of all countries which celebrate Lunar New Year around the world.
