Malaysia’s Bernama highlights Vietnam’s economic performance despite COVID-19
(VOVWORLD) - Vietnam has fulfilled a number of economic targets this year despite impact of Covid-19 pandemic, becoming one of the top 20 economies in the world in terms of international trade, said an article published by the Malaysian news agency this week.

According to the article, Vietnam has shifted its strategy from "Zero COVID" to safely adapting, flexibly and effectively controlling the pandemic, helping to maintain economic activities.
In order to achieve a solid macro-economic foundation, the Vietnamese Government offered unprecedented support to firms and residents hit by the pandemic while making timely policy adjustments. Each locality also took own measures to achieve the dual goal of fighting the pandemic and restoring economic development, it said.
Such policies and strategies have consolidated public confidence in the government, and encouraged them to join hands in pandemic containment and economic development, Bernama said.
The Bernama news agency stated that foreign trade turnover exceeded 660 billion USD, up 21%, with a trade surplus of about 2.1 billion USD. Notably, foreign direct investment (FDI) poured into Vietnam reached more than 29 billion USD, an increase of nearly 500 million USD compared to 2020. GDP in 2021 is estimated at 2.58%.
