(VOVWORLD) - Britain and the EU reviewed the agenda for Brexit negotiations at a meeting this week, but there are still “major difficulties” to overcome to make progress, a spokesman for Prime Minister Boris Johnson said on Wednesday.

Britain’s negotiator David Frost said the EU’s insistence on state aid and fisheries is an obstacle to making progress overall but the UK remain in close contact with the EU and they’ll look forward to the next round of talks next week in London.
The European Union’s negotiator Mitchel Barnier said in Dublin that he was “worried and disappointed” after the UK made no concessions to end the impasse during informal talks.
He reiterated that a deal must be brokered by the “strict deadline” of the end of next month ahead of the transition period on December 31. He said if they don’t move on the key issues of the EU, the level playing field, fisheries and governance, the UK will take itself the risk of a no-deal.
