(VOVworld)- The General Department of Environment of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment held a meeting to mark the International Day  for Biodiversity with the theme “Water and Biodiversity”. Vietnam has participated in the Convention on Biodiversity Conservation, the Ramsar Convention on the Conservation of Wetland and the Convention on Wildlife Trafficking. The country has recorded several achievements in the conservation of biodiversity. Pham Anh Cuong, Director of the Department of Biodiversity Conservation, says: “The community plays a crucial role in the conservation of biodiversity. All the natural resources are surrounded by people. So, when people participate in this work, they learn more about the values of biodiversity and contribute to its conservation by protecting the forests, detecting hunters and being aware of the trafficking of wildlife and by planting trees”.

The Week to mark the International Day for Biodiversity will run through to the end of this month with various activities including a photo exhibition on biodiversity, workshops on initiatives for conserving biodiversity and cycling to disseminate information about biodiversity.
