Mekong Delta set to achieve annual growth rate of 7% by 2030

(VOVWORLD) -Mekong Delta’s growth rate will reach about 6.5%- 7% per year and the size of the region’s economy by 2030 will be 2-2.5 times higher than in 2021, according to a Politburo resolution.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on Saturday signed the Government's action plan to implement the Politburo Resolution dated April 2, 2022 of socio-economic development, environmental protection, national defense and security in the Mekong Delta until 2030, with a vision to 2045.

The Resolution clarifies the main tasks and solutions such as: to build Can Tho city into a development center of the Mekong Delta; to build the cities of My Tho, Tan An, Long Xuyen, Rach Gia, Ca Mau and Soc Trang into general and specialized centers, and to turn Phu Quoc into a center of high-quality services, eco-tourism, sea and island tourism connected with major economic centers in the region and the world. Other tasks include to develop centers on agriculture coupled with specialized farming areas and connected with urban areas.

By 2030, the expressway system linking the Southeast region must be completed, while agricultural production be developed into a sustainable, ecological and agricultural economy. National defense and security must be safeguarded, according to the Resolution.

The Ministry of Planning and Investment said on Saturday that more than 30 international organizations and 100 big foreign enterprises will participate in the conference on Mekong Delta investment planning and promotion to be held in Can Tho city next Tuesday.

In addition, six banks will announce their commitments to sustainable development projects in the Mekong Delta adaptive to climate change in the period 2021-2025. The committed funding and ODA loans amount to 2.2 billion USD.
