Justice Minister Soren Pind said Tuesday that a force of 140 Home Guards will replace 165 police officers in June, to help the overworked police with temporary border controls. In 2015, the number of people seeking asylum in Denmark rose to 21,000 from 15,000 in 2014. Though Denmark is a member of the Schengen free movement zone, it has established temporary border controls in January to stem the influx of asylums seekers.
