Military Parade on Moscow’s Red Square

(VOVworld) – On Monday, ten thousand Russian soldiers marched through Moscow's Red Square to mark the 71st anniversary of the Soviet Union's victory over Nazi Germany in 1945.

Seventy-one aircraft flew over Moscow to mark the day. Russian female service personnel took part in the parade for the first time.

President Vladimir Putin highlighted the achievements of Russian army in the Great Patriotic War and expressed his pride and gratitude to previous generations for their great sacrifice in national liberation and during the struggle against fascism. Mr. Putin said the world is now facing a terrorist threat, adding that Russia was willing to join forces with other states to fight global terrorism and create an international modern security system.

Parades to mark Victory Day also took place simultaneously in 26 cities in Russia.
